Rule of the Bone #5

Rule of the Bone is a coming of age novel for sure. It shows how Chappie went from a boy to a man. He reaally grew up over the course of the story. He didn't really know a lot about the world, but by the end he had really matured. The book itself shows the changing perspective that Chappie has about life.

1) "Yeah, you should choose between me and Ken."
This is showing how Chappie has realized that even though his mother loves him, and she should love him more than anyone else, that's not the way the world works, because when it comes down to it, his mother will always choose Ken over him.

2)"I never wanted to be the big tough kid who ended up on the other side all by myself and unable to say Red Rover, Red Rover, let even the littlest kid in the schoolayard, let Chappie come over."
This shows how on the inside, Chappie is actually really insecure, and he doesn't want to be alone ever. He has this need to cling to people all the time.

3)"But now I was into accepting I-Self as I-Man would say and as a result I didn't give a flaying fuck what people thought when they looked at me."
Chappie has really matured at this point. He doesn't care people anymore because he's content with who he is, so he doesn't need anyone or their opinion anymore.

My Life
1. One coming of age experience for me is when my sister left for college. Now it doesn't sound like a big deal but i didn't know the impact she had on the our household. I didnt realize this but she help everything run smoothly. My sister would run errands, pick up my little sister when she needed a ride, and cook when my mom was running late. After she left for college 2 years ago, I had to take the responsibility put onto my shoulder. This was a coming of age experience because it showed me to grow up and not rely on other people all the time.
2. Another coming of age experience was getting my license. Even though i was able to leave and not have to wait for my parents to give me a ride to my friends house. What i didnt realize at first was if someone were to get into the car, their life would be in my hands and if i were to get into an accident and they got hurt nine times out of ten I would be guilty of putting them in danger because i wasnt paying attention or rather find a good song to play in the car. This freedom gave me a life changing experience.
